Sports Sketches and Drawings

Before anything gets painted or digitally inked, it gets drawn. Pencil, pen, charcoal and or marker on paper. No filters, no AI, no electric pencil sharpener. Just the subject and the sketch. And occasionally a eraser that has seen better days.

The sports drawings here cover figures, portraits, logos, and the occasional character study that did not fit anywhere else. Athletes from the Mets, Islanders, Knicks, Giants, Jets, and beyond. A few portraits that have nothing to do with sports and everything to do with the craft of drawing a face that actually looks like something. This is harder than it sounds. Ask anyone who has tried to draw a nose.

Some of these are tight, finished pieces. Some are loose and fast, knocked out in a single sitting. Both are honest. A drawing does not lie about what the artist knows and does not know. That is what makes it the most direct thing a visual artist can do.

Pencil and pen are the primary tools here, with marker work mixed in where the subject calls for it. The approach is observational and traditional. Same foundation as the oil paintings, different application than the toons. Same coffee, different mug.
