Sports Art and Seascapes
Joe Maracic is a Long Island artist creating original sports cartoons, sketches, oil paintings, and Croatian seascape paintings.
The Work
CartoonsBold lines, real personality. A sports fan watching the game and drawing what he sees. Just a sports fan watching the game and drawing the sports cartoons (toons) in the moment.
SketchesThese sketches focus on the player: the face, the stance, the feeling of the game. They look good on a wall and age better than a jersey.
PaintingsSports oil paintings, portraits, and Croatian seascape paintings, because the Adriatic coast deserves the same attention as the box score.
The Subject Matter
The sports side covers a lot of ground. Islanders and Mets art get the most attention. Joe grew up near Shea Stadium, and later near Nassau Coliseum, so the bias toward both runs deep. Beyond that: NHL, MLB, NFL, NBA. If a player did something worth drawing or painting, it’s fair game.
Portraits get their own section too. Athletes, faces, people worth putting on paper or canvas.
The Croatian seascapes are the other part. Old wooden boats, Adriatic light, the islands off the Dalmatian coast. Different subject, same hand. The boats do not move as fast as Mat Barzal but they are considerably easier to paint.
